The Moto Z2 Play is losing what made the first version so great

 

Details on the next iteration of Lenovo’s Moto Z Play leaked today, thanks to VentureBeat, and one of the device’s key specs seems to be getting a big downgrade. Lenovo is reportedly dropping the next Z Play’s battery from 3510mAh to 3000mAh, meaning it’ll go from 50 hours of expected life to 30 hours. The decrease in battery capacity comes with a drop in the device’s thickness, but that’s the exact tradeoff people praised the original Z Play for avoiding. 

The phone will reportedly feature a Snapdragon 626 chip with a 2.2GHz clock speed. The Z2 Play might also get a storage and RAM boost to 64GB and 4GB respectively. And Lenovo’s said to be reducing the resolution of the rear-facing camera to 12 megapixels while improving the lens with an f/1.7 aperture. (The original Z Play had a 16-megapixel, f/2.0 camera.) The 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display will reportedly remain the same as the original device.

The Z2 Play will be available in two colors — gray and gold — and is likely to be released alongside two other Moto Z devices later this year.
