The Huawei Watch 2 is reportedly coming next month
The choice for “best Android Wear watch” usually has two
answers: people either pick the Huawei Watch or the second-generation
Moto 360. But with Moto sitting it out on smartwatches for the time being, we’re only going to see one of them get a sequel — and it might not be too far off. VentureBeat reports
that Huawei is aiming to unveil the Huawei Watch 2, with a “sportier”
design than the original, at Mobile World Congress next month. Ideally
it’ll be less thick than the first model, which is one of the only
frequent criticisms of an otherwise great wearable.
Aside from a refreshed look, the Huawei Watch 2 will
offer at least one model with built-in cellular data, allowing it more
standalone functionality while running Android Wear 2.0. The device will
be able to make phone calls, according to the report.
Google is expected to launch Android Wear 2.0 on February
9th at an event where the company will also unveil two new,
LG-manufactured smartwatches. If that timeframe is accurate, Huawei will
trail the first flagships by a few weeks, but fans of the original
Huawei Watch probably won’t have much issue with waiting. I for one hope
that Huawei sticks with a sapphire-covered display, as there aren’t
many Android Wear watches that’ve matched Apple Watch in that regard.
