Lenovo’s next shatterproof Moto phone will bring back the headphone jack

Lenovo is working on a successor to last year’s Moto Z Force, which was a thicker version of the regular Moto Z with a bigger battery, higher-res camera, and shatterproof display. A few photos of the Z2 Force have already leaked, and now Android Authority has shared some more details. The most important thing is that the headphone jack is making a return.

Lenovo might have a case for ditching the 3.5mm jack in the super-slim Moto Z, but it never made much sense not to include one on the Z Force. The Z2 Force is said to be thinner than its predecessor (5.99mm versus 7mm), and aside from the headphone jack, it will also house a new dual-lens camera system and Snapdragon 835. It will support last year’s MotoMods, as the connectors are in the same place and the phone’s back design is largely identical aside from some aesthetic changes. Here’s a spin-around look at the design:

Better still, the new Force will likely shed its Verizon exclusivity. Evan Blass reports that it will also be offered by T-Mobile, and Android Authority reports that the phone will support Category 16 (read: very fast) downloads on its network. So if you’re a human who frequently drops things and would prefer dealing with scratches instead of a cracked screen, the as-yet-unannounced Moto Z2 Force might be worth a look.
