Movado's Android Wear watch looks exactly how you'd expect a Movado smartwatch to look
Movado is another luxury mechanical watchmaker looking
to get into the smartwatch game, and it just revealed its new Android
Wear 2.0 watch, the Movado Connect, at the Baselworld 2017 watch show.
And it looks pretty much exactly like what you would
expect a Movado smartwatch to look like. All the usual hallmarks of
Movado’s design ethos are on display with the Connect: the iconic single
dot used as a 12 o’clock indicator, a clean and simple case, and a
custom watchface made to resemble the company’s classic Museum model.
Movado isn’t saying too much about the hardware of the
Connect, so it’s hard to tell how bulky it is compared to other Android
Wear watches or what battery life is like. And while the photography may
give them impression that the Connect has almost no bezel, there’s
actually quite a large one surrounding the screen (although there’s no
“flat tire” indentation on the bottom, so that’s nice).
While the Connect may be Movado’s first Android Wear
watch, the company has experimented with smartwatches in the part. Back
in 2015, Movado teamed up with HP to release the Bold Motion, a hybrid smartwatch some basic notification and fitness-tracking features.
Movado won’t be the only luxury watchmaker with an
Android Wear watch, either. It’s a trend we’re starting to see more of
with devices like Tag Heuer’s $1,600 Connected Modular 45 Android Wear watch.
The Movado Connect is set to launch in the fall with five different men’s styles that start at $495.
