Guess is releasing a collection of ugly smartwatches later this year

Guess wants you to buy its smartwatches. You should not buy its smartwatches.
The fashion brand and its watch subsidiary Gc by Guess are both releasing a pair of smartwatches later this year, and they do not look good. The Guess Connect and Gc Connect (above) will both run Android Wear 2.0 and will be powered by a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, which is fine. The problem is that these watches are very, very ugly.
The Guess Connect is the worst offender. The watch comes in ladies’ and men’s versions, both of which hurt my eyes, come in 41mm and 44mm cases, respectively, and feature the usual slate of smartwatch features, besides an acceptable design.

The Gc Connect isn’t as bad, but it isn’t good either. The ladies’ version has the most appealing design — if we’re grading on a very large curve — but the gaudy black-and-gold men’s version should’ve never left the design board.

It’s really baffling that no one has figured out how to make a great-looking smartwatch, given the number of beautiful mechanical watches that are available. (Yes, you could argue that the Apple Watch looks good, but let’s not get into the square vs. round watch debate right now.) Until someone is ready to make a truly great smartwatch, Guess is happy to continue the trend of mediocre smartwatches from fashion brands.

The Guess and Gc Connect smartwatches will be available later this year.
