Windows 10 is getting picture-in-picture suppor

Windows 10 is getting one of the best features from Android and iOS: picture-in-picture support. Microsoft is introducing the new feature as part of the Creators Update, which is expected to be made available to existing PCs in April. Microsoft is calling its picture-in-picture feature “Compact Overlay,” and it will be available for all app developers creating Universal Windows apps. Built-in apps like Movies & TV or Skype will support picture-in-picture, allowing you to watch a TV show or watch a Skype video call in a window while navigating away to another app.

Microsoft is testing the feature as part of the latest Windows 10 build 15031, available for fast ring insiders today. Dynamic Lock is also included in this build, allowing you to pair a Bluetooth phone to have Windows automatically lock your PC when the phone isn’t found nearby your PC. It’s a nice feature, but it’s disappointing not to see Microsoft make use of the Windows Hello camera on desktop PCs to automatically detect whether someone is nearby their PC.

Microsoft also revealed today that Windows 10 Creators Update is feature complete. That means all of the features are set for its April release, and Microsoft will now start to finish them off and remove any bugs in the update before it’s shipped in April.
